Colour Scheme of the 'New City Garden' Takeaway
These designs have been done and illustrated on Adobe Photoshop, below are some examples:
Sticker Design to hold lid
From the designs above, I have tried to follow the colour scheme that I have taken a sample of the 'New City Gardens' colour. This is for the paper cover packaging, which can be taken off if the consumer would like. To experiment with these colours, I have tried to demonstrate the different tones of colours - from darker to lighter. The typeface that I have experimented with is called 'Futura' this type of typeface give the packaging of the a modern twist due to the selection of colour scheme. The packaging will especially look more luxurious if the letters were foiled in a silver colour. It is unfortunate that the New City Garden's has no logo, so I believe that the font/typeface is their logo.
Out of all the colours scheme of the packaging, I believe that the most appropriate design would have to be the first one. Compared to the other colour schemes, one is too faded and the other is too bright to be a suitable packaging colour for this kind of packaging.
For the sticker which are to hold the sliding lid to protect the food from spillages and leaks. I have done a few rough quick sticker designs on Photoshop. This will allow me to get a visual idea on how I would develop these stickers. Again I have tried to stick to the colour scheme similar to the takeaways.
Then experimented with two typefaces on the sticker designs 'futura' and 'Montserrat' either in uppercase of lower case letter. This will keep with the simple yet contemporary approach to the design packaging. With the shape of the stickers, I experimented with a square, circle and hexagon. Overall the sticker designs look good for the first design, but it could be definitely improved.
Feedback on stickers designs
- Majority of the feedback said they all prefer the first colour scheme as the others do not blend well with the existing logo of the takeaway.
- The majority of my peers pointed out that they prefer the Montserrat typeface than the futura. The Montserrat typeface looks similar to the takeaway typeface.
- Capital letters is a must as they match the current typeface.
- The stars do not really fit in the concept of the takeaway typeface logo.
- Do not repeat the name of the takeaway twice if its already on the box packaging.
- Majority of my peers/tutors liked the hexagon shape than the circle and square shape.
- One peers pointed out to add a bit of Chinese aesthetics on the sticker, like the hexagon shape could have the patterns on the Chinese window on buildings.
- Foil (either gold or silver) the name of the takeaway on the box and stickers to make the packaging more luxurious.
By taking both my peers and tutors advice, I will experiment with what they advised me to do to develop my box packaging design.
