OUGD502 | Personal and Professional Practice 2 | Overall Module Evaluation

OUGD502 Personal and Professional Practice 2 Overall Evaluation
In conclusion of the OUGD502 Personal and Professional Practice 2 module. I found this module one of the most challenging and hardest, this is due to not only the types of briefs that were given but also personal reasons.

Most of the briefs within this particular module involved a lot of communication and interaction to the outside of the art industry. This mostly scared me as I am not the type of person to speak out to professionals first. This module definitely made me come out of my comfort zone and become more confident with myself as ask if it was okay for me to interview them. Lucky all three of my professionals that I wanted to interview said yes they would be able to. I am very happy that I did come out of my comfort zone and emailed them as its not as nerve-wracking as I thought it would be. Plus in the future I will know how to contact other professionals when I need to for other future briefs. It is also very interesting to read their answers of the interview questions, it allowed me to see how they became in their positions that they are currently in and how they are doing now. It is also quite inspirational on how well they have done in their journey. From their personal websites which include their work I can understand were all the hard work has come from and how passionate they are about how with their career choices.

For all the creative reports I liked the concept that I created for them. For example I followed all of the professionals companies logo design to make their creative report represent them. Majority of the all the colours had the same colour such as black and white yet there was a third colour that was different. The advertising firm was red, the illustration professional was green and the Graphics design firm had none so I added a light blue colour. The concept was them to be a set of book but each had a different art background - advertising, illustration and graphic design. I am very fond of the book covers of each of the creative reports, however I believe it would of been better of they were printed professionally. I would of printed these creative reports professionally but unfortunately the quality of the artwork that I collect on each of their websites were not a good resolution. I know this because of printing out mock ups of my creative reports pages, the images were very pixelated and unclear. They would turn out the same if I printed them out professionally.

I think I could of done a better job when laying out and organising the text with the images as all creative reports had to much familiarity. I do struggle with editorial design I find it quite challenging when laying out a page equally. I believe I need to explore and experiment with new grid layouts instead of using the same one over and over again.

For the personal reasoning that I found this specific module difficult was that I fractured my ankle which made me slow down on this module. This module deliverables was to look into exhibitions and galleries and explore what things interested you and inspire you on what work that can support you. Unfortunately I wasn't mobile enough to do this, I was greatly disappointed that I was not able to go on the Berlin trip which would allow me to explore lots of artwork. What I can do better is visit more places, like exhibitions and talks and so on.

Studio Brief 03 | Life's a Pitch | Design Strategy | Hand Stuff - Final Group Presentation

Life’s A Pitch Group Presentation

Team Name: Hand Stuff (sometimes art gets too serious)

Team Members:
> Beth Fitton
> Nanami Butler
> Leah Chen
> Katie Sung

Roles:
We will spilt the roles between us evenly and cooperate well as a group. This will either be setting up the exhibition, social media platforms, merchandises, posters, banners, drinks, food, tickets and location etc.

Summary background of the Hand Stuff Exhibition:-
This particular kind of exhibition focuses on displaying artwork based on hand made or crafty background. We wanted no only Graphic designers to present their work. But also include Illustrators and Animators (as they are in a similar department). It is a good way of distributing students work for potential future clients. They people who also display their work can also sell some of them. The most iconic icon of the exhibition is the hand semiotic, we also suggested a using a boomerang video of the visitors and students to do a waving hand motion. This will be posted and spread through social media platforms. The colour scheme of the exhibition will be yellow and light blue - these colour choices emphasise happiness, relax and open environment for all. The location of this particular exhibition would either be the University or another Studio.

Feedback from tutors

  • Liked the name of the exhibition (hand stuff)
  • Not fond of the tag line especially the word 'serious' art is not supposed to be serious it more fun and passionate.
  • University work should be challenging part of producing a positive final piece.
  • Majority believe that the colour scheme was appropriate for our theme/concept
  • The social media aspect of promoting the exhibition was one of their favourites (boomerang video) as a icon of the showing

Studio Brief 03 | Life's a Pitch | Design Strategy Presentation Briefing

Studio Brief
Life’s A Pitch
An important part of your professional growth is to develop an ability to work collaboratively and productively with others. Working in small mixed groups drawn from a number of LCA creative degree programme’s you will develop fully and pitch a professional proposal for a public facing venture to best showcase and promote the individual works of the collective . This could take the form of ( but certainly is not limited to) an exhibition, publication or online presence , or perhaps a combination of these. Through research and planning you will explore the basics of how to identify an appropriate venue, audience and market, structure your team to optimize your individual and group skills and knowledge, investigate the legal and financial obligations of developing and launching a creative initiative, seek appropriate professional support & advice, plan and control finances and effectively promote, brand and communicate your presence to external parties and partners.

> Your team will pitch a fully developed proposal describing and visualising the showcase with appropriate visual aids.

> Your individual presentation should be based on the analysis and content that you have been introduced to throughout the module and your experience of working in a collaborative partnership.

Background / Considerations

Six heads are better than one as long as they communicate. You will now have the luxury of six pairs of hands. How will you use them effectively? You will need to consider the following:
> What skills and services do you have to offer individually and as a group?
> Who is your target market?
> What form will your showcase take?
> What are your costs, charges and financial considerations?
> How will you structure your collective?
> Who will be responsible for what?
> How will you promote your showcase? To who? Using what media?
> Is it set in a physical location ? then where?
> How will you manage communication through the group?

You must make reference to the module resources materials, books and web sites to demonstrate your understanding of basic marketing and business principles.
Mandatory Requirements

Responses to this brief should be recorded on your PPP Blog and should be labeled with the module code and appropriate 'Studio Brief Number'.

Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that all work for this brief has been presented and labelled in line with these guidlines by the submission deadline. Work that is incorrectly labelled, posted to the wrong blog or is in anyway unclear or inaccessable will not be assessed

You should ensure that any material, discussions and reflections generated during taught sessions, workshop and group critiques are evidenced for assessment.
Deliverables

TA 10 minute Powerpoint/pdf or similar presentation

Appropriate visual aids and printed material to support your presentation.

Evidence of the research and development of your presentation and visual material should be posted to your PPP blog and labelled with the module code. You should also post pdf versons of your presentation, notes and handouts to your PPP blog.

Studio Brief 02 | Creative Presence | All Final Creative report - Evaluation

All completed digital creative reports - Evaluation
In conclusion, I believe a decent job with all the creative reports. I am mostly proud of the collecting and receiving three interviews from all professionals that I contacted. I am also very fond of how I was able to get a variety of professionals in the Art industry and each one has their unique area on which they work on.

In addition, I also found it very useless and interesting while reading their answer to the interview questions I had given them. It allowed me to have an insight of the reality behind the true meaning of working in the art industry as a secure job.

These professionals are very passionate about their work, this can been seen not only by they way the answered the questions on the interview I gave them. But also on their websites, how they show off their work to the web. From the work that they display on the website demonstrates how much hard work is put into their clients work.

For the editorial side of the creative report editorial designs is not one of my strengths within this area. I tried to get as much inspiration from existing editorial book layout designs which did help me a lot. However my creative reports look to much similar to each other like the layout of the text and the images. I believe I will need to explore into this area further or even practice some in my free time. I will definitely explore more when it comes to using grids and working with a selection of them for future briefs.

I would like to make some of my creative reports physically, however when I printed all the creative reports on cartridge paper the work from the professionals where too pixelated and it would not look as professional when printed on nicer paper.

I am fond of my cover designs of my creative reports as they were all colour coordinated the black and white colours. This could mean these creative reports can be a set but each from a different background in the art industry.

I believe I could of done a lot better with the creative reports than what I have done. For examples not all creative reports did not need to be in book form but could either be a poster or an animation and so on.
