Studio Brief 02 - Self Branding ideas and research

During todays session, we need to design, develop and produce a self branding of ourselves that effectively communicates and promotes us a individual, novice designer and learner. In this brief I will reflect on my learning aspirations and design directions, that communicate the context of my interests by some of inspired designers, studios, principles and audiences.

The overall resolution in this brief should represent of what I see is significant as an individual designer and learner in light of what I have learned during the programme. I will need to consider the following:
  • Who are you now?
  • What have you learned?
  • What skills do you have?
  • What do I know?
  • What do you believe?
  • What information do I need to include?
  • What formats can I use to effectively communicate/promote this information?
  • What tone of voice best reflects me, and my practice or my ambitions?
  • What experiences have shaped my opinions and views both in and outside of the programme?
  • What are my creative concerns, opinions and beliefs, and how do I communicate these practically and conceptually?
  • What has informed these decisions and who are the contextual references that reflect my individual focus?

  • What is 'Brand You'? This is my visual identity that will help bring together the information. For example: What fonts, formats, colours and production methods will assist my communication and enhance my content? 

Below is my plan/ideas based on this Self Branding Brief: 




To commence this Studio Brief, I started researching who I was as an individual 
by answering the brief questions as a starting point for my self branding. To show
my research and inspiration ideas I created a spider diagram to branch out my 
ideas . By looking at artists who inspire me by the artwork that they produce,
I chose the following Graphic designers, Illustrators, Artists and Graffiti Artists:
Roy Lichtenstein, Johanna Basford, Banksy, Andrew Bannecker and Andy 
Warhol. These specific individual artists interest me and especially inspire me 
in my self Branding project. Due to they have they’re own individualistic, unique 
art styles. Which indicates how their kind of art not only looks professional but 
also has a hidden meaning and purpose.  

Thus inspiring me to follow their similar artwork style and creating it to my own 
personal uniqueness within my Self Branding. Like looking into more of my 
background that could help me in my work, what I have seen and what places
I have visited that could inspire me. The people that I have meet, the new 
environment that I have to adapt to. Even visiting professionals and finding out
how they discovered their own personal style that has been noticed.   

My initial reaction to this brief, was when I began thinking more in detail 
what things I like to do, comparing my past artwork style to my present 
style whilst studying in Leeds college of art. Looking and observing my 
other peers work which inspire me to develop my work even further in the 
future.

Photography Induction - Testing/Experiencing Camera

In today's photography induction we tested out the camera to see what kind of effects, motion shots it could produce. There are the images below of different effects of the camera could do and create. Some I have taken is to show how slow the picture captures the shot giving it more of a blurred motion through the people walking speed.

Studio Brief 01 - Reflective Practice

In this Studio Brief 01 for PPP - Reflective Practice.. We need to collect, categorise and reflect on a body of investigative research and creative references, which documents my on going development as a Graphic Designer, plus engaging with contemporary creative culture through my PPP course blog. This should be presented by posting regular posts on my blog which demonstrates an increasingly and individual/independent exploration of Graphic Design. This includes the broader creative industries and general 
visual culture. 

By using this brief, this should be a starting point for the development of an increasingly informed understanding of nature of contemporary Graphic Design Practice and its role in our local and national and international culture. 

I will need to maintain an ongoing evaluation of your individual progress in Level 04 of the programme by regularly reflecting on what you have learned and how you have developed. As well as how this relates to my own creative ambitions. As part of this process I should post copies of each End of Module Self-Evaluation within my blog to keep order and maintain an ongoing record of my reflective skills and analytical responses to my own development.

Therefore I will initial start by setting certain Tasks that I will set for myself and will record my responses to them, but only using them as a starting point for my own independent research activities.  

I must keep referencing a broad by searching out new and interesting connections. Visit any lectures, events and exhibitions. Organise study visits to studios, galleries and so on. Also keeping in mind to record and reflect on all that I see. By set time on a regular basis is to reflect on the work you have produced and its relation to your emerging creative interests and aresa of individual focus.
